  The management of KNUST has finally heard the cry of students concerning the increase in hostel prices in and around the school campus. The management's words: 7:47pm today Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi For immediate Release: MANAGEMENT ENGAGING PRIVATE HOSTEL OWNERS TO REDUCE FEES The attention of Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi has been drawn to agitation by some students of the University, on social media about hikes in private hostel fees. Our investigation shows that indeed some private hostels, off-campus have increased their rentals between 20% and 94%. These are hostels which do not belong to the Private Hostels Association (PHA) formed with the University, through the Office of the Dean of Students. This notwithstanding, the Office of the Dean of Students has identified those specific hostels and have started engaging them on the possible reduction of same.  On 16th May 2021 at 11am , Students in KNUST had a demonstration on the increase in the prices of hostel fees.  The police all over the campus.. Nobody has no idea if they are ensuring peaceful demonstration or they are preventing the students from carrying on... The students want the prices to reduce because their parents can't afford...  We are in this together people      While others complained of increase in the prices, Michael Abuah, an aspiring SRC president also is complaining about the fact that those expensive hostels are not maintained properly and some students  are in his support..  We the student of KNUST had had several comments and complains about the increase in the prices of hostels on and around KNUST campus. We hereby would like stakeholders, the SRC and the media to come to our aid.  The average person can't afford. Have those business men thought of these average people or they are just doing their business.
